The man who wrote The Adventures of Pinocchio in 1883 was called Carlo Collodi. His real name was Carlo Lorenzini and he was born in Florence, Italy in 1826 and died in 1890. He was a writer and a soldier. He fought for the independence of Italy from Austria. He also founded two humorous newspapers and wrote several novels.

Pinocchio is the story of a little wooden boy puppet who wants to become a real boy. The story has been translated into several languages and made into a motion picture.
